This week in the Wonders reading program we will study the question, “How can people make a difference?” The students will learn about famous historical figures who have created positive change, as well as present innovators who are making a big impact. This ties in nicely to our town cleanup day this weekend! Our spelling pattern this week will be ou/ow. We will review pronouns, and practice using quotation marks.
In Math this week, we continue our exploration of measurement and data. The students are creating bar graphs and line plots using measurement data they have collected. We are integrating our knowledge of addition and subtraction to answer comparison number stories such as: How much longer is your arm span than your neighbors? This week we will also continue our story writing. The students have learned six ways they can hook a reader with their first sentence. They are working to add dialogue to their stories and use meaningful vocabulary. We are off to a good start! As well, we will continue our STEAM project on erosion this week, by hypothesizing which soil types will erode more quickly. Quick Reminders: Thank you to the many parents who have signed up for a parent teacher conference. You should have received a link from me to signupgenius. Please take a moment to fill out the field trip permission slip and return it to school by this Thursday, April 11th. This allows us enough time to coordinate with Squam Lake and the bus company. Report cards will come home this Friday, April 12th in student folders. Please sign and return the envelope to school on Monday, April 18th.
