This week in the Wonders program we will investigate the question, “How can we protect our Earth?” Students will read stories that teach us how a small action can make a big difference in our environment. We will practice making predictions as we read, and identifying the problem and solution in the story. As well, we will study the spelling patterns that make the /all/ sound.
In Math this week, we are beginning a new unit on geometry. In this unit, students will be challenged to sort shapes beyond just color, shape, or number of sides. They will be introduced to angles (including the right angle) and the term polygon. We will spend a great amount of time building and manipulating 2D shapes before we look more closely at 3D shapes. We are beginning informational writing this week. This is a great tie to our Wonders question, and our work with eco-artist Cynthia Robinson that begins this week. Students will have the chance to become Earth experts, realizing solutions to sustain and protect our playground environment. Just a reminder that our new school times begin tomorrow, May 1st. School will begin at 7:30, and end at 2:30 in order to make up time for the multiple snow days. As well, you should have received an email sign up for parent teacher conferences that take place this week. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this!
